Empowerment
Adolescents and Teenagers
Empowerment
Many teenagers struggle with the idea of accepting help. It makes sense given that the world around them is encouraging them to increase their responsibilities and have autonomy over their own decision making. Adolescents are beginning to solidify their core values and belief systems or are challenging previously accepted viewpoints. The desire to be successful in this step in creating one’s identity and autonomy is why so many adolescents, teenagers, and young adults do not seek help.
The Equine Haven’s approach to working with teenagers is based within the foundation of empowerment. Therapy is a choice. And it is a difficult choice to admit that perhaps life isn’t what it could be.
Therapy is difficult. It requires effort and energy that a person might not feel they have within them to muster.
But remaining miserable, remaining unfulfilled, remaining hopeless, remaining overwhelmed; that is also difficult.
So I will often encourage clients to first “choose their hard.”
What types of therapy is offered to teens?
Individual, equine, and family therapy are all modes in which adolescents and teens can be engaged.
Steps we take.
Evidence based and goal specific treatment plans are created with every client regardless of age or therapy type. In order for a client to understand their progress there has to be measurable goals and objectives that are realistic.
